Insurance companies, pension funds, staff pension funds, death benefit funds and similar companies in the insurance industry are obliged to maintain an ongoing asset register that shows all current positions of the security assets.  While all larger insurance companies must keep a register based on Bafin Circular 06/2017, smaller insurance companies, pension funds, superannuation funds and death benefit funds are obliged to apply Bafin Circular 07/2016.

The investments of the protection assets are divided into more than a dozen categories, which are further subdivided into subcategories. It should also be noted that the book value and market value of the instruments are handled differently.
