Since 2014, there has been a reporting obligation for all derivatives transactions and holdings - both for exchange-traded derivatives and OTC derivatives.
The reports must be submitted to an EMIR transaction register authorised by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) within one working day.
10 years after its introduction, EMIR REFIT is now making a major adjustment (goes live 29 April 2024) to the previous EMIR reporting. The number of fields to be reported will increase by around 50%, with the focus on topics such as derivatives collateral and counterparties. Measures such as the introduction of "action types" and "event types" are intended to improve the clarity of reporting.
